Living in El Tarter, “World cup village”
El Tarter is a residential nucleus in the Canillo parish that over the years has become a "World Cup" location thanks to the projection of the Grandvalira ski centre in the world alpine skiing scene. Located in the sunny slope of the valley, at 1700 meters of altitude, it had an estimated population of 821 inhabitants in 2017, according to the statistics department of Andorra.
We arrive at the village by the CG-2, halfway between Canillo and Pas de la Casa, depending on whether you arrive from the south or from France. The road that crosses the town through the deepest part of the valley forms a clear division between the residential area, on the sunny slope, and the ski area of El Tarter de Grandvalira, in the shaded spot. A perfect distribution that allows the residents to enjoy spectacular views of the ski slopes and maintain a healthy, comfortable and relaxed life in the exclusive residential area where most of their homes are located.
El Tarter is one of the most dynamic sectors of Grandvalira, the largest ski area in the Pyrenees. The Snowpark El Tarter is located here. One of the most important international freestyle races in southern Europe (Total Fight) is held in it, with the longest module line in the Pyrenees and one of the longest in Europe. As far as alpine skiing is concerned, the Àliga slope received, in 2013, the homologation as a FIS downhill track, and it was home of the Women's Downhill World Cup in 2016. The great success of the race and the good results obtained by Andorra in the organization convinced the FIS to award Soldeu - El Tarter the finals of the World Cup Alpine Skiing for the 2018-2019 season.
